How the new ABC News website will help you survive in a changing world
Australia is struggling to recover from the global financial crisis.
As we look to the future, it’s time for the ABC to make a move.
It has a role to play in making that happen.
But it needs to be a little more proactive, says the ABC’s managing director and former chief executive Mark Scott.
“I think there is a lot of good reasons why we’re not seeing that,” Scott said in an interview with The Conversation on Tuesday.
ABC chief executive and former Australian chief executive says the media needs to take a lead in the world ABC chief operating officer Mark Scott says he’s “shocked” that Australians aren’t looking more to the media to help them cope with the world.
Scott said there was a huge opportunity to be part of that.
“The media, the public, the business community, have a lot to contribute to our economy and we need to be leading by example,” he said.

“It’s the perfect opportunity for us to be more proactive in helping to shape the future of journalism,” he told the audience at the National Week in Review event at the Sydney Opera House on Tuesday night.
“We have a chance to lead the way in the development of journalism in Australia.”
Scott said the organisation needed to do more to support the growth of the online news industry.
The ABC has a history of being very proactive in providing access to information to people who may be at a disadvantage.
It’s been working with the media on issues that have had a huge impact on the community, such as the NBN and digital literacy, Scott said.
Scott also spoke about the importance of a public broadcaster that was willing to take on some of the challenges that faced Australia in the 21st century.
When the ABC was formed in 1949, it was the first major Australian media organisation to cover politics and the environment, Scott told the crowd.
Today the ABC is known for its investigative journalism, Scott added.
“That’s what we’re trying to do with the digital world, to be the most accessible and engaging broadcaster for Australians.”
Scott said he was also looking forward to the announcement of a new global digital channel, the ABC Digital News Network, which will be launched in 2020.

“[It’s] a very different role from traditional news, where the ABC acts as a gatekeeper to tell the world what’s happening and what the media is saying,” Scott told The Conversation.
“Digital News is a channel that’s open to everybody, and that’s why we think it’s so important for us, and the audience, to get involved.”
He said the digital news team would focus on news, culture and culture, with the aim of making sure stories were well sourced and informed.
This was particularly true for the digital age, where a lot more information is being shared on social media and it’s going to be much harder for the media and the government to hold back the information,” Scott added, pointing to examples of what happened to stories and events in 2017.
At the moment, the internet is not accessible to the ABC, Scott explained.
We will be providing a digital channel that will help us be more open to people and that will be better at breaking stories, he added, adding that he was hopeful that the channel would become an important tool for other news organisations to offer access to their audiences. “
We have more digital content now than ever before, and it will continue to grow, and will change the way people consume media,” he added.

AAP Digital News News Network was announced as part of a series of initiatives announced last week by ABC CEO Mark Scott and ABC chief content officer David Parker.
Earlier this month, the company announced a number of initiatives aimed at creating more digital jobs in its journalism division.
Among those measures was a $10 million investment to launch the ABC and ABC Digital Journalism Networks.
The investment was also aimed at helping the ABC reach audiences online and in other digital markets.
In August, Scott also said the ABC would introduce a new digital-only digital platform, the iReport, to help it create more content and services for people who are more visually-impaired.
He also announced the creation of the iStory platform to support storytelling across the ABC.
