Which airline will take the plunge?
New Zealand Airlines has revealed it is exploring a “new era” in the airline industry and is exploring options to take the helm from United.

New Zealand Airlines is the first to sell directly to customers.
Its chief executive, Paul Kelleher, said the new airline would be a “world class” airline with a new leadership team.
“We’re looking to sell to the private sector and the commercial sector,” he said.
“This is the best business model in the market for a very long time.”
Mr Kellehe said the company was looking for “new ways to be more transparent and transparent in our business model”.
“This will allow us to do things differently in a way that’s more accountable and transparent.”
Mr Stirling said the airline was “on the right track” with its plans to sell off its entire corporate fleet.
“The opportunities that we are exploring are all exciting,” he told ABC Radio New Zealand.
“It’s a new era for us.
It’s a very exciting time.”
He said the business model would be to sell the business directly to consumers and he was looking to take advantage of that opportunity.
“What I am most excited about is the opportunity to do business with our customers in a more direct way.”
New Zealand Airways had a profit of $15 million in the three months to June.
The airline reported a loss of $17.5 million.
New Zildjian’s Chief Executive, Paul Stirling, said it had the right business model and that the company had been “on a trajectory for some time”.
“We’ve been in the business for 30 years and we’ve never lost money,” he added.
“There’s no one-size-fits-all solution for business, but we’re in a position where we have the right kind of business model.”
Mr Strang said the airlines goal was to grow the business to “more than $3 billion” by the end of 2019.
“For us it’s about a sustainable long-term business model that will allow New Zealand to become a world class airline in a very sustainable way,” he continued.
“That’s the plan.”
Mr Zildjanis revenue dropped to $11.6 million in September from $13.7 million a year earlier.
